About CLARAKhay
ClaraKhay Johnson, also known as CLARA K Johnson, is a self-trained interdisciplinary artist and creative free spirit whose work spans abstract art, digital pieces, illustration, texture, three-dimensional forms, and mixed media. From an early age, ClaraKhay expressed her creativity through doodles, handmade gifts, and imaginative visual ideas, though she says she did not fully realize she was an artist until 2008: “The artist showed up and decided to stay.”
Her creative practice incorporates canvas, metal, wire, paint, glass, fabric, textiles, found objects, and literary prose. Her work has been shown in galleries and art houses in the United States, Spain, France, and South Africa. She has also given a TEDx Durham talk discussing unconscious bias encountered during her journey as a self-trained abstract artist.
ClaraKhay is the creator of CLARAfications, a body of work rooted in imagination, clarity, personal growth, and appreciation for life and the planet. She recently completed her first short book of essays with accompanying visuals, *Doing The Dash*. Alongside her studio practice, she works in strategy, design, and marketing for a renowned fine rug company. In her free time, she enjoys personal development, travel, and time with friends and family.
