ABOUT

About CLARAKhay

ClaraKhay Johnson is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist, designer, writer, and creative thinker whose work explores the intersections of imagination, memory, identity, mortality, and the meaning we make of our lived experiences.

Her creative practice spans mixed media, digital art, textiles, fine rugs, public art, and written works. Guided more by curiosity than convention, Johnson has developed a distinctive visual language through experimentation—layering color, texture, imagery, and abstraction to create work that invites viewers to look beyond the surface and arrive at their own interpretations.

Her creative journey has extended well beyond the studio. Johnson's international experiences include artist residencies in Spain and France, and her work has been exhibited in South Africa. She has also brought her ideas to the stage as a TEDx speaker in Durham, expanding the conversation between her visual practice and her broader interest in how we experience, question, and understand life.

Through CLARAfications, Johnson brings these different threads together—art, design, writing, and reflection—into a body of work grounded in curiosity and the belief that creativity can challenge what we assume, illuminate what we overlook, and help us see the familiar differently.
